Photoswitchable Proteins

This illustration was produced for a molecular visualization course in the Biomedical Communications program. The goal of the project aimed to explain a biomolecular phenomenon, in this case photoswitchable proteins, through structure-function relationships. Additionally the project served as an exercise in using and manipulating real protein structural data. 

This particular illustration communicates how natural photosensitive proteins are engineered for real-world applications, with a spotlight on one particular example, Dronpa. Structural information was visualized using Chimera and the environment created using Cinema 4D. Labels and schematic diagrams were made using Illustrator.Other effects and compositing was done in Photoshop.
